drainage cleared out in 100yd bay

Wednesday the crew hit the scene and cleared out the mud that had backed up in the drainage pipe in the 100 yard bay to get the water flowing again. Pictures are from Friday evening and show almost all the water is gone except a bit behind the 50 yard marker leading up to the pipe. It’s pretty shallow, but the ducks still wanted to hang out in it.

The 200 yard bay is rutted deeply from vehicles going downrange and is still full of water in the ruts, making it really muddy. You can walk downrange along the edge and bypass the ruts, but please don’t drive down there making the ruts even worse, until they dry out so we can get the grass cut and the ground leveled back out and make the ruts disappear.

We’ll get the remainder of the grass cut in the 100 when it fully dries out. It will take a bit longer in the 200 to dry out, but when it does, we’ll get it cut in there too. Getting the lawn tractor in there through the vertical support beams and the ruts is just too difficult right now.

Road expansion update

I just went by the range after breakfast to check up on the status of the road widening and how far along they are. Currently, it is covered in fresh oil and tar, with spots pooling here and there. I don’t know which day it was applied, but the scent of oil is thick in the air. Personally, I would not travel on that material with my car until it is paved asphault material. Getting that crap off the undercarriage of a car would probably be damn near impossible.

Tomorrow is the regularly scheduled Cowboy Action match. As of now, it is not cancelled. I just spoke with Nenette on the topic, and if the Cowboy Action shooters wish to continue with the match, they are free to do so. I’ll be posting photos here and on Facebook and sending an email out to the Club to make y’all aware of the situation.

My advice is to wait for the road to be completed, but if you choose to enter the Club, you may do so if you so choose.

Paving

Javelina Drive in front of the Club is currently under construction to hopefully level the street properly and repave it. If you drive in, some times there might be machinery operating. Sometimes there might just be signs. Sometimes there might just be cones. We are still open and have not closed. As long as you are able to drive your vehicle through our gate, you can continue to use the range. If you wish to enter the range while the road is under construction, you may try to maneuver around obstacles to gain entry. If you cannot get through, come back another day.

gate access restored

Ok, got new hardware installed at the gate to replace the damaged gear that was under water. Gate access has been restored. Remember to scan your card both when entering and leaving the range.

Closed until water drains

Hurricane Hannah decided to dump a whole bunch of water on us. The range proper is fine, but the road is closed and the gate is under water. So, we’re closed for a few days until the water falls back so people can safely enter and exit. I expect we will be open this weekend for the special Saturday renewal session at 10am and the usual Sunday membership session at 1pm. August is a busy month for me.

4 days later, most of the water is gone

So here are a few pics from Sunday afternoon showing the recession of the water. There’s still a bit of it in low spots, but y’all can easily walk up and downrange. The topsoil was dry in the 25 and I didn’t get any mud on my shoes. In the 100 yard bay, there is a bit of water in the low spots, but there is plenty of dry dirt to walk on so you don’t get muddy. You’ll likely still want a bottle of bug spray though…

We will follow up in a week or two as time permits for the crew to get back out and run another cleaning cycle through the pipe to try and remove more of the silt built up in it, as well as looking at regrading the 100 yard bay.
